Tejashwi Yadav Announces Protest Programme
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national working president and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on October 5 announced the INDIA bloc’s action plan over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Mr. Yadav alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had acted at the behest of the BJP. These are allegations made by Mr. Yadav and the INDIA bloc.
INDIA Bloc to Hold Aakrosh March
According to the announced programme, Bihar leaders of the INDIA bloc will organise an Aakrosh March on October 7 at the block level.
The protest will target the Chief Election Commissioner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Opposition's concerns regarding the electoral roll revision exercise.
District-Level Protests on October 8
On October 8, INDIA bloc leaders are scheduled to hold sit-in protests across all districts of Bihar.
The protests will then be followed by a demonstration at Lok Bhavan in Patna, which will be led by Tejashwi Yadav.
The Opposition has raised concerns over the SIR exercise and alleged that the process could affect voters and electoral rolls in the State. The Election Commission and the ruling side have their own positions on the electoral-roll revision process.
Tejashwi Yadav Leads Opposition Campaign
The announcement comes as the Bihar Opposition intensifies its campaign over electoral-roll revision and the functioning of the Election Commission.
The INDIA bloc's planned protests are aimed at highlighting its objections to the SIR exercise and seeking accountability from the election authorities and the Union government.
